FACT: 5th generation prostheses are used in breast augmentation operations. The feature of these last generation prostheses is that the gel layer inside preserves the shape of the prosthesis. Problems such as deformation of the breast due to deformation of the prosthesis and silicone leakage are much less common in prostheses that retain their shape. Therefore, in operations where last generation implants are used, there is no expiration date due to the 'lifetime' of the prosthesis.
Wrong: I cannot breastfeed after breast aesthetic surgery.
FACT: In breast augmentation surgery, implants are placed under the mammary gland, which contains the milk ducts of the breast, and in some, under the pectoral muscle or the membrane covering the muscle under this gland. With the operation applied to women who still have these old implants, the existing prostheses can be replaced with the latest generation silicone gel implants. In the 5th generation implants used today, infiltration can be seen much less than in the old prostheses. However, since the capsule of the implant is more robust, an infiltration called “silent rupture” and remaining in the outer capsule of the silicone prosthesis is detected even when seen. It rarely exceeds this capsule and leaks into the breast.
